Backpacks and Gear

Gear in Fruit Forager covers backpacks, boots, gliders, bowls, and amulets—plus the four Tourmaline pieces that define endgame. This page documents what each slot does, where to buy or craft upgrades, and how equipment ties to zone access including Zone T in Mystic Forest. Compare priorities on the Gear Tier List and fund purchases using the Fruit Tier List.

Backpacks — capacity first

Your backpack determines how many fruits you extract per trip. Early shop backpacks are mandatory stepping stones; late tiers bridge into Tourmaline.

Progression tips:

  • Upgrade backpack before buying duplicate boots.
  • If you overflow during Volcano Legendary runs, you are losing more coin than any cosmetic saves.
  • Tourmaline backpack is visually distinct—more circular/egg-shaped versus blocky early models.

Capacity synergizes with Orders— larger hauls mean fewer trips for ticket payouts.

Boots — ground speed

Boots improve walk speed across Forest, Tundra, and Volcano floors. Mid boots help before gliders; Tourmaline boots replace them endgame.

Boots are lower priority than backpacks and gliders for pure sellers, but help new players who have not unlocked flight routes.

Gliders — vertical mobility

Introduced in the Glider Update, gliders let you reach cliff stations, Volcano rims, and hidden Tourmaline Station C entrances near Greater Volcano.

Tourmaline Glider is the endgame flight piece, sold through the Tourmaline Station chain including Station D under Portal Plaza.

Without a glider, many crate lever areas and station shortcuts remain impractical—see Crates Index.

Bowls and amulets — plot power

Bowls and amulets buff planting, growth, or sell bonuses on your plot. The Amulet Update expanded this slot for collectors running home fruit farms.

Tourmaline Bowl shows a green/cyan/light blue gradient—easy to spot in inventories.

Plot-focused players buy bowls earlier; route sellers can delay until Tech or Tourmaline crate pots appear.

Each station sells pieces and participates in the seven-lever unlock puzzle spanning Greater zones. Pull every lever before expecting Zone T entry.

Zone T and Tourmaline Temple

After full Tourmaline gear and lever completion, Mystic Forest opens the gated fan elevator to Zone T. Inside Tourmaline Temple shop:

  • Ticket Printer limit upgrades (up to 3) — 100K coins each
  • Mutator limit upgrades (up to 10) — 250K coins each
  • Plant pot limit upgrades (up to 20) — 500K coins each

These caps matter for serious planting and ticket economies.

Tech, mine, and shop gear

Not everything is Tourmaline:

  • Mines fund mid backpacks without waiting on fruit RNG.
  • Extreme Electronics and other shops appeared in later updates—check UI after Latest Update.
  • Tech Crates drop planting exclusives that compete with mid bowls.

Upgrade order (default seller build)

  1. Backpack tier 1 and 2
  2. Glider
  3. Volcano-ready boots (optional)
  4. Late backpack tier
  5. Tourmaline pieces as recipes become affordable
  6. Bowl/amulet when plot slots matter

Plot builds move bowl/amulet to step 3—see Early Game Build.

Which gear slot matters most?
